The only May Day with a procession, Working Peoples May Day held at Galleface Green amid police disturbances!

Despite government and police disturbance, members of the trade unions and mass organizations marched from the CMU Hall in Kollupitiya to the protest center in Galleface grounds this morning to celebrate the International Workers’ Day (May Day). Rally held according to the health guidelines. In the morning police arrived to CMU hall and ordered to disperse the crowd, but at the intervention of Sylvester Jayakody, Joseph Stalin and Ravi Kumudesh etc. police allowed to go to Galle face with two in a group, but not as a procession.  Later procession marched to the demonstration center at the Galleface Green despite police orders under the health instructions.

Rally held after the group reached the Galleface Green. The meeting was addressed by Sylvester Jayakody (CMU), Joseph Stalin (Ceylon Teachers Union), Linus Jayatilake (United Federation of Labour), Lalitha Dedduwakumara (Garment and Textile Workers Union), Lal Bangamuwa (Independent Port Employees Union), Jagath Gurusinghe (Sri Lanka Telecom All Employees Union), Chinthaka Bandara (Sri Lanka Postal and Telecommunication Services Union) and Ravi Kumudesh (Medical Laboratory Scientists Professionals Association). In addition to these unions, the National Trade Union Front, Protect Union, UPTO and the Power of Working People also participated.
